Across your organization, physicians are actively improving care through quality initiatives, patient safety efforts, and system priorities. The ABMS Portfolio Program™ helps organizations connect their work to quality improvement credit for continuing certification from their ABMS medical specialty board. It is designed to build on your existing improvement efforts, making it easier to support physicians while advancing organizational priorities.
Physicians participate in improvement activities. Your organization reviews and validates that participation, then reports it to the Portfolio Program. The Portfolio Program works with the ABMS medical specialty boards to award QI credit.
The Portfolio Program is commonly managed through QI, CME, medical education, or professional development functions. Your organization can place it wherever oversight for improvement activities and physician engagement already exists.
Portfolio Program responsibilities are often managed by one to three staff members as part of their existing roles. Organizations typically build on processes already in place rather than creating a separate program office.
