The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) expresses its support for the single accreditation system for graduate medical education announced by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), and the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM).
“A strong, unified system of graduate medical education and assessment will improve the quality of all residency programs in the United States, expand access to residency programs for graduating US medical students from both allopathic and osteopathic schools, and improve collaboration across our medical communities,” stated Lois Margaret Nora, MD, JD, MBA, ABMS President and Chief Executive Officer.
The ABMS Member Boards Community offers its full support to help ensure a smooth transition in the coming years ahead as the accreditation processes merge.
