Susan M. Ramin, MD

Secretary-Treasurer

Dr. Susan Ramin is the Secretary-Treasurer of the Board of Directors. In addition, she is the Chair of the Finance Committee and is a member of the ABMS Executive Committee and the Ethics and Professionalism Committee. An engaged volunteer leader, she has also served as Chair of the ABMS Standards Task Force for Continuing Certification Standards and the Committee on Continuing Certification.

Dr. Ramin is an experienced physician, researcher and leader in higher education as well as global women’s healthcare. She earned her medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She joined the faculty at the University of Texas Southwestern in 1990 and was the Director of the MFM fellowship program from 1996-1998.

She joined the faculty at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston (UT-Houston) in 1998 as Director of the MFM Division and fellowship program and subsequently achieved tenured Professor in 2003. She was the principal investigator of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units Network at UT-Houston. In 2006, Dr. Ramin was appointed the Emma Sue Hightower Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at UT-Houston. She later joined Baylor College of Medicine in 2011 as tenured Professor, Vice Chair of Global Women’s Health and Director of the Global Women’s Health Fellowship Program, and also served as Vice Chair of Education and held the Henry and Emma Meyer Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Ramin was Associate Executive Director at the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) directing the Maintenance of Certification program and continuous professional development pilot programs from 2017-2024. She also served as an ABOG board examiner, Director of the ABOG MFM Division and was a member of the ABOG Board of Directors. In May 2024, Dr. Ramin rejoined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center as a tenured Professor and the Vice Chair of Clinical Operations.

She was also a consultant and later voting member of the Ob Gyn Devices Panel at the Food and Drug Administration. In addition, Dr. Ramin served on the Expert Physician Review Panel for the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners for 15 years. She has served on multiple committees for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), was a member of the ACOG Council on Patient Safety in Women’s Health Care and was on the Governance Committee for the ACOG Patient Safety in Women’s Health Care. In 2023, Dr. Ramin earned the Distinguished Service Award from ACOG.

Dr. Ramin is certified by ABOG in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine and is participating in the ABOG Continuing Certification program.
