ABMS® Patient Safety Courses
ABMS offers three self-paced, Web-based courses that provide patient safety and quality improvement curriculum applicable to physicians, residents and medical students. (See Overview and Options for details.) Participants learn essential knowledge, skills and attitudes about patient safety that can improve care in clinical environments. The program aligns with key initiatives, including The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals.

Provide foundation-level patient safety training developed by recognized leaders as integral part of education process.

Reduce error risks by using the program to address patient safety at a systems level. Demonstrate commitment to patient safety by providing comprehensive program to physicians; align with Joint Commission, IHI, AHA initiatives.

Three course options are available: |
- The ABMS Patient Safety Improvement Program combines online patient safety education, quality improvement education and performance improvement activities that focus on identifying and analyzing errors, determining improvements based on best practices and implementing changes. Results are measured and benchmarked against national standards.
- ABMS Patient Safety Foundations provides core curriculum sections covering Epidemiology, Systems, Communications, and Safety Culture.
- ABMS Quality Improvement in Practice provides Quality Improvement Fundamentals and Improvement Activities (change packages) that introduce changes the individual physician can make in his / her own practice setting. Results are measured and benchmarked against national standards.

Individual physicians may enroll in the ABMS Patient Safety Improvement Program by following these steps:

Register: Click [First time student click here to register], set up user id and password

Select "Catalog" tab, type ABMS in the search window, click [Search]

Select course title and complete course enrollment process

The ABMS Patient Safety Improvement Program is available for $55 and grants 20 AMA PRA Category 1 credits. Completion may also satisfy ABMS MOC requirements based on your Member Board's requirements. Please consult your Member Board's Web site for additional information.
