Susan O’Connell
Director of Finance and Administration

Susan O’Connell joined the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) in 1995 and now serves as director of finance and administration. She is responsible for overseeing human resources, accounting and financial reporting, and has helped overhaul the benefit program for ABMS employees. O’Connell also manages $3.75 million in grants and oversees development of financial strategy and systems to support new ABMS initiatives and governance structures.

O’Connell began her career at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she managed a $26 million dollar bond issue to support hospital renovations.  She also worked as a senior staff auditor for the hospital’s internal audit department.  Prior to joining ABMS, O’Connell was the business manager for the Centre East Theatre in Skokie, Illinois.

O’Connell received a bachelor’s degree in history from Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y. and a master’s in management from the J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University with a specialization in accounting.  She has been a CPA since 1982.
