John B. McCabe, MD, FACEP
Vice Chair
Dr. John B. McCabe joined the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) in 1999 and currently serves as the vice chair of the board of directors. For four years, Dr. McCabe served as a trustee of the American Board of Emergency Medicine. During his tenure, he held all offices within the organization including president of the board from 2004-2005.
A renowned emergency medicine researcher, Dr. McCabe is a professor and chair of the department of emergency medicine at the State University of New York Update Medical University in Syracuse. In 1991, the university established an academic department of emergency medicine, and Dr. McCabe was its first chair. He also was instrumental in the development of the university’s residency program in emergency medicine.
Dr. McCabe received his MD from the Upstate Medical College of Medicine in Syracuse and completed a residency in emergency medicine at the Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. He is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
